Just as the Title says.
Right now funcom is not establishing core elements within the game world that focus on replay value and player created entertainment.
In order to achieve a stable community and a game in which the players have the tools to continue keeping themselves occupied while the rest of the game elements are being worked on, funcom has to establish a solid replay value element to the game.
1. Funcom needs to shift its attention on making minigames accessable and playable by all servers. Minigames should be buffed up, and popular.
The reason for this is that minigames are a form of replayable content. It is like giving a cat a ball of yarn to keep them happy while you work on other things.
WoW has held onto active subs by using battle grounds and replayable content at end game. This is a solid and accepted strategy. One should not have to get to the end game and have nothing fun to do.
2. Give reasons for pvp, items, rank, visuals, trophies..ect Lets face it. Players hate grinding after awhile, but pvp… pvp is always changing, always fresh. Mob AI = Stupid. Player Int = depth.
3. Balance out classes on a very basic level to keep it fun in minigames and world pvp.
Those 3 priorities have the least amount of change of screwing up the game world. You need to give a dog a bone to chew on, which they have not done.
Once that is achieved, should take no longer than a month at most, Funcom needs to sit down and re-evaluate the entire game and classes, as well as where they plan on going with it. Give themselves some realistic time tables, and focus on replayable content in which players can be happy till more content is added later.
PvE is like eating a candy bar, its good but its not infinite. PvP is like bubble gum, you just keep chewing and it takes much much much longer to die out.
After the foundation is built for replayability and fun minigames, then recreating the class system might be a good idea.
The classes right now are mostly Hybrids and Tribrids. This is bad. Hyrbids and even tribrids are the hardest classes to balance, especially when there are more than 1. Funcom needs to start specializing classes. Let them share some skills, but make sure there is a clear line between Tanking, DPS, Healing. Each class needs to be able to do ONE thing well and the rest average or bad.
From this point, they can add bits to each class to make them better at other things but in a more balanced and manageable manner. There needs to be a clear distinction between rogues and mages. Healers and DPS classes…ect
We know that funcom has in place a random spawn system as seen in resource maps, if they can push this feature to make it world wide and interesting, players might get a new experience every time.
Anyways, for now Funcom really needs to focus on getting the primary replay and player created entertainment pushed into the game, solidly. Then they can work on the other things while the players are being entertained and distracted at the same time.
